Summary[]
Two investigative journalists receive a strange email from a person called "Jadusable," and set out to meet him at a motel so they may discuss the story opportunity given to them.
Plot[]
Two men perform a camera set-up. The camera cuts to Mike, an investigative journalist in search of a new story to cover. The camera operator is Chase, his partner. Mike describes a story idea he receives via email. The email itself is not detailed, only saying that "he" has a story he wants them to look into, followed by the link to a YouTube video.
Chase describes another story idea he received by phone call, a missing person case involving a teenager named James. They consider passing the story off to a coworker, and focus on the email. It reads, "I hear you were looking for interesting stories for you documentary. I have a story you may be interested in," followed by a string of text and the YouTube link, ending with, "Meet with me if you're interested; Nesbit Motel, N US Highway 15 PA." The email was sent by a person with the handle "Jadusable."
After discussing the merits of this story idea, they watch the video linked within the email, titled free.wmv. Afterward, they look at the channel the video was uploaded to, and find that it matches the sender of the email, Jadusable.
Chase films Mike as he makes a phone call to their boss, then they prepare to leave Mike's house for the hotel. The camera has two short audio/visual interruptions before they leave, but they record parts of the trip as they film scenery and listen to music. As they near the hotel, they lose the radio station gradually until the static cuts to a short laugh and a song playing in reverse. After several seconds of confusion, the radio cuts out entirely before returning to its normal state.
Mike and Chase reach the motel, located within a small town on the highway. They exit the car and enter the building with some equipment, then ask the employee at the front desk if he had ever heard of Jadusable while they check into their room. He replies with a smile and a head shake, then asks if that's a real name. Mike then explains that it's a screen name, and that they had been asked to meet him there. They ask him to direct visitors to their room as they walk into the hallway.
Once inside the room, Mike recounts the encounter to the camera and outlines the plan to stay at the motel for the night and wait for Jadusable to show up.
